Painted Eggs on Easter

Happy Easter!  Mine has been very relaxing.  I decided to take the day totally off and go to the beach and relax.  My first stop was the black sand beach.  I’ve never seen one before, it is what it is, black sand.  It is very hot and just absorbs the heat, not many tourists here, just a couple surf boarders, a few locals, and goats; yep, goats on the beach, about 20 of them.  I found this beach to have lots of trash, so maybe the goats come to clean it up???  Not sure.  Anyway, Balinese bury themselves under the sand (as seen in my photo); it is good for your bones. I however, just believe them and did not try it.  I thought about it for the 5 seconds I took my sandals off and walked in the sand, but quickly changed my mind, YOUCH.

From here, I traveled to the beach in Sanur.  This is more touristy, but much cleaner.  I parked myself on a beach chair, indulged in yet another massage, and obtained a sunburn.  Not sure how, I kept sunscreen on and spent most of the time under the tree, I guess it must have been my 15 minute swim or the target brand sunscreen.  OH WELL.

My Easter lunch, as pictured, was chili crab.  I went to Benno’s on the beach, recommended by Lonely Planet and ordered what was suggested.  It looks lovely doesn’t it?  I will say I am glad I was eating alone (no offense Adam), but what a mess.  Whose idea was it to put chili sauce all over a whole uncracked crab?  Not to mention, it’s spicy, spicy so you don’t want to lick your fingers, and they give you a roll of toilet paper for napkins!  Let me just say it tasted good, it was a mess, and next time I order it, I’m bringing a towel.

So on my way home, I decided Easter would not be the same without dyed eggs, so I improvised.  On the way to Purnati, there are little shops known for egg painting and so I had to stop and buy one.  Maybe I’ll hide it from myself later and try to find it when I pack up to go home?  They are actually very intricate paintings on duck, goose, and Ostrich eggs and they pack them in these cute little baskets.  I wonder if my duck eggs will make it all the way back to America.

So now I’m waiting for dinner and I feel that my Easter is complete, except I do miss seeing my family and friends.  So Hi Family and friends I miss you dearly, I wish you were here (and I’m sure you do too) and I hope that you have a wonderful Easter.
